Infrared video goggles

At Mariposa Wellness LLC we utilize Infrared Video Goggles during our evaluations which allow for more accurate test results and treatment planning. The goggles block the patient’s vision while they have them on, while the infrared technology provides a magnified real time image of the patient’s eyes on the clinician’s screen during testing.

By blocking the patient’s vision we prevent the patient from focusing on a target. Focusing on a target could suppress any nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) that we look for during vestibular tests. Suppressing nystagmus could lead to test results that would appear as if there is no issue with the vestibular system when there could be (false negative test.)

The goggles we utilize at Mariposa Wellness LLC also allow for the clinician to turn on a light within the goggles that the patient can see in order to determine what happens to the patient’s nystagmus when they do focus on a target. This helps us to tell if their dizziness or vertigo is resulting from a peripheral issue (within the inner ear) or a central issue (within the brain.) The system also records the patient’s eye movements during testing so that way their results can be reviewed with them after testing.

Some clinics may rely on Frenzel lenses, which would simply magnify the patient’s eyes during testing and not block their vision. At Mariposa Wellness LLC, accurate testing is of utmost importance when it comes to our patient’s health and wellness.
